A copy of the summer mailer was sent to parents/guardians on July 6, 2018, through an electronic 2018 SUMMER MAILER from the Principal's News, "Viking Voice."

Many of the documents will be in a paper mailing that households will receive in mid-July. The paper mailing was funded by the PTSA and Lynbrook Excellence in Education (LExE) as a courtesy. High School staff will mail a Course Request Verification form to incoming 9th graders. Current 9th - 11th grade will receive their Course Request Verification form during their 3rd period class on April 6, 2018.

The verification form will be the last time students can make changes to their course requests courses before we begin scheduling classes. Courses listed on the verification form does not mean they are guaranteed, this verification only confirms the requests that students made. It is essential that parents and students review the courses that are listed on the form and discuss any changes before returning the form by Friday, April 13, 2018.

Some examples of change requests:

  • A class that was requested is not listed.
  • The same class is listed twice, and it needs to be removed
  • Missing a required class for graduation
  • Want to drop a course request and add a different course to the 6 priority requests.

***Current Students Only*** Students with questions should see his/her counselor no later than Thursday, April 12, 2018.

All forms are due by Friday, April 13, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. Incoming 9th grader forms should be turned in to the main office (the main office closes at 4:00 p.m.). Current 9th- 11th grade students return their forms in the alpha-group basket on the Guidance Office counter. We ask that students enter the office in the back of the main office and exit through the front to help with congestion.

Preliminary student schedules will be sent in early August via Informed K-12: Digital Forms.

January 24, 2018

Dear Lynbrook High School parents and community,

As you know, at the end of the 2016-17 school year, the Fremont Union High School District came to an agreement with certificated staff to align the schedules of our five high schools so that the instructional day would begin no earlier than 8 a.m. starting in the 2018-19 school year.

The decision to adjust and realign our school schedules grew out of the work of the FUHSD Wellness Taskforce in 2016-2017. Using the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on School Start Times for Adolescents as a starting point, the task force then gathered data from District surveys of parents and students as well as the experiences of surrounding districts that had realigned their schedules. All of this analysis reinforced the notion that starting school later would deliver better health results for students and families.

To fully implement these changes, the District formed a Bell Schedule Committee, made up of teachers from across all five campuses, to consider specific changes to the bell schedule and the logistical issues that these changes could trigger. The creation of the staff committee allowed for more thoughtful planning and consideration of the many minute details that impact the building of the master schedule.

Attached is the detailed bell schedule that will be in place at our campus in Fall 2018. Under the new schedule, there will be no change in the number of instructional minutes during the school year.

In addition to the later start time, two key changes were made to support student learning. First, all campuses will now have three tutorial periods for students (with no loss of tutorial minutes for any school site). Also, to better support our goals of curricular alignment and collaboration, teachers will have an additional hour of collaboration per week. (Please note, when collaboration is indicated on the attached schedule, this denotes time dedicated to staff professional development. Students are not required to be at school during this time.)

We greatly appreciate the contributions of our parent, student and staff communities in working towards a schedule change that we believe will positively impact our District as a whole. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Maria Jackson

Principal

Lynbrook High School
