APLAC and APUSH Diagnostic Test Registrations

10th-graders considering enrolling in A.P. Language and Composition (APLAC) and/or AP United States History (APUSH), should register for the diagnostic test.

The purpose of each exam is to help students make an informed decision about whether APLAC or APUSH would be a good choice for the 11th-grade year. Taking the APLAC or APUSH diagnostic is not a placement test nor does it mean that if you register for the diagnostic, you must choose to enroll in an AP course.

The APLAC Diagnostic will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 7:35 AM in the LHS cafeteria. The deadline for registration of the APLAC Diagnostic is 4:00  PM on Monday, January 29, 2018. If you have questions about the APLAC Diagnostic, please contact Mr. Richmond in room 213.

Findings from Stress in America™ in 2013 indicated that American teens’ stress level far exceeds the healthy index (5.8 vs. 3.9 on a 10-point scale) and tops adults’ (5.8 for teens vs. 5.1 for adults).

As a result of stress, 31% teens reported feeling overwhelmed; 30% reported feeling depressed or sad, and 36% reported fatigue. 42% of teens indicated not knowing how to manage stress.

Stress persisting at high levels for a long time, can have lasting negative effects on health and cause anxiety, high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, as well as contribute to diseases such as depression, etc. How can parents and community members better understand and support our teenagers’ optimal development?
